If you’re planning a trip to Lijiang, China, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山) is one attraction you definitely shouldn’t miss!

With breathtaking mountain views, snow-covered peaks and the absolutely gorgeous Blue Moon Valley, this was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip.

We booked a Jade Dragon Snow Mountain one-day tour through Klook, which included the Glacier Park Cableway and Blue Moon Valley.

Was it worth booking a tour? Here’s my experience, including what I loved, what could have been better, and some things I wish I’d known beforehand!

What’s Included in the Klook Tour?

One of the main reasons I enjoyed booking through Klook was how convenient everything was.

Our package included:

  • Transport inclusive of Hotel pickup and drop-off
  • Glacier Park Cableway and Blue Moon Valley visits
  • One oxygen canister per person
  • One bottle of mineral water per person
  • A jacket to wear on the mountain if needed
  • Driver assistance and coordination throughout the day

The arrangements were straightforward, and we didn’t have to worry too much about navigating everything ourselves.

Note: Klook offers different packages, so always check the latest inclusions before booking.

Our Experience: Convenient, Well-Organized & Stress-Free!

Before the trip, someone contacted me through WeChat to confirm our hotel details and arrange our pickup.

They even shared travel tips before the actual day, which I really appreciated!

On the day itself, our driver arrived on time and was really friendly and easy to speak to.

He explained where we needed to go, what to do after exploring each attraction, and where to meet him afterwards. Communication was easy because we could contact him directly through WeChat whenever needed.

He even checked when we’d prefer to eat so he could help coordinate the day’s arrangements.

Honestly, having someone handle the transport and logistics made the entire experience so much more enjoyable!

Glacier Park: Gorgeous Views, But Beware of Altitude Sickness!

The scenery at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was absolutely breathtaking!

We took the Glacier Park Cableway up the mountain and continued walking higher to enjoy the spectacular views.

The cableway takes visitors to approximately 4,506 metres above sea level, with a walking route towards the famous 4,680-metre viewing point.

We managed to climb quite a fair bit, but unfortunately, we didn’t make it all the way to the top.

Why?

Altitude sickness! 😭

We honestly thought we’d be fine, but both of us started experiencing mild headaches and shortness of breath.

Although the symptoms were relatively mild, we decided not to push ourselves any further.

And I’m glad we made that decision. The views were already incredible, and reaching the highest point wasn’t worth risking our health.

My Tips for Visiting Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

1. Take altitude sickness seriously.

Even if you’re young, active or physically fit, you can still experience altitude sickness.

Take your time, avoid overexerting yourself, and don’t feel pressured to reach the highest viewpoint. If symptoms develop, stop ascending and seek assistance. Descending is important if symptoms worsen.

2. Plan ahead if you intend to buy oxygen.

Our tour provided one oxygen canister per person.

I’d suggest checking whether you need additional oxygen supplies before heading up, because the canisters we saw on the mountain were around three times the price of those in town!

However, supplemental oxygen isn’t a substitute for acclimatization or appropriate medical care. If you’re concerned about the altitude, speak with a healthcare professional before your trip.

3. Dress warmly.

It can get extremely cold at higher elevations, especially during winter.

Our tour provided a jacket if needed, which was a convenient addition.

Blue Moon Valley: My Favourite Part of the Day!

If there’s one place I absolutely LOVED during this tour, it was Blue Moon Valley (蓝月谷)!

OH MY GOODNESS.

The water was such a gorgeous shade of blue, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery.

Everywhere we looked, there was another beautiful photo opportunity!

We spent our time admiring the views and taking LOTS of photographs.

Honestly, I could have happily stayed there much longer.

If you’re visiting Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, I highly recommend choosing a package that includes Blue Moon Valley. It’s absolutely beautiful and was easily one of my favourite highlights!

What About the Food?

Okay, here’s something I think is worth mentioning.

The food during our visit wasn’t particularly impressive.

It was sufficient to keep us from getting hungry, but definitely not something I’d consider a highlight of the tour.

Based on my own experience and what friends shared with me, I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to choose a buffet option.

I’d recommend having a good breakfast before heading out and bringing a few snacks, especially since it’s quite a long day.

  • Weather conditions: Mountain views and cableway operations can be affected by the weather.

Is the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Klook Tour Worth It?

For me, absolutely YES!

Despite experiencing mild altitude sickness and not being particularly impressed by the food, I genuinely enjoyed the trip.

The convenience of having transport arranged, a friendly driver to coordinate everything, and the chance to explore two incredibly beautiful attractions made it worthwhile.

I especially appreciated not having to figure out the logistics ourselves.

If you’re visiting Lijiang for the first time and want a convenient way to experience Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Blue Moon Valley, this is definitely a tour I’d recommend considering.

Just remember to take the altitude seriously, dress appropriately and check what’s included in your chosen package!
